Sports, the Universe & a Healthy Dose of Cynicism in Portland

Photo Journal

I thought I’d share some pictures of the places I’ve been over the years. There’s something to be said about traveling and OCD. On one hand, it can make you forget about a lot of things and you can completely immerse yourself in the moment. In the present, there’s no room for fear.

On the other hand, people are really, really dirty creatures. When you travel, you come across a lot of people.

Sometimes, it doesn’t matter how present you are if someone coughs into their hand, itches their eye and hands you a samosa without a glove.

That you aren’t rooted – or that you don’t have a home – makes all these things even harder.

We’re nomadic animals, but we were always supposed to be part of a community. Not a society – a community.

When you aren’t a part of something that makes the intimacy of friendship, love, or support immediately available, your general quality of life can become kinda blegh.

Life is really short and can be really difficult at times. When I was traveling, I found a lot of places that seemed to suggest it wasn’t.

These photos make me think there are universes – as well as states of mind – where there’s only lightness and cotton-candy.

Like that book Kundera wrote, only, it’s unbearably bearable, if that makes any sense.

We just have to keep looking. We have to keep going.

We’ll find it, I’m sure.

Anyway, that’s all for today.

Thanks for caring, as always
